Troubleshooting

What to try when the projector is blank, the app is slow, or something needs reporting.

Nothing shows on the projector

Work outward from the app:

  1. Is the screen pointed at the right display? Open Screens and use Identify: it flashes a number on the real screen, which settles the question in a second.
  2. Is the computer sending a picture at all? Check the operating system’s own display settings. If the projector is not there, it is a cable or an input, not the app.
  3. Is anything live? A theme with nothing live in it is black on purpose. Show a verse and see.

The picture is black, torn, or the wrong colours

Some graphics drivers cannot draw what the app draws. Under Help → Troubleshooting, turn off hardware acceleration and let the app restart. It renders with the processor instead of the graphics card: slower, and correct on machines where the driver is not.

This is the fix worth trying on an old church computer before anything else. It does stop NDI and Blackmagic screens, which need the graphics card; their tiles say so.

A mixer does not see the NDI screen

  1. Is the screen sending? Its tile on the Screens page says how many mixers receive it, or why it cannot send.
  2. On a Mac, is Local Network allowed? Under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, BibleLook has to be on.
  3. Are both on the same network? NDI finds sources on the local network only, and a guest Wi-Fi that keeps devices apart hides them from each other. On Windows, allow BibleLook through the firewall for private networks.

The switcher shows nothing from the Blackmagic output

Check that the screen’s video format is the one the switcher runs at: an ATEM set to 1080i50 shows nothing from a 1080p25 signal. Then check the tile: it says when the output is unplugged, the driver is missing or another program holds the output.

The app is slow

  • Close what else is running. A browser with thirty tabs is competing for the same graphics card.
  • Clear cache and restart, under Help → Troubleshooting.
  • Very large background videos cost more than everything else put together. A generated backdrop costs almost nothing.

Reporting something

Help → Troubleshooting → Copy Diagnostic Report puts the app’s version, your system details and recent errors on the clipboard. Paste it into an email with what you were doing at the time.

Show Logs and Show App Data open the folders themselves, for when someone asks for a file.

Report a bug from Help → Report a bug. It writes to support@biblelook.com with a subject line already filled in.

Starting over

Nothing here deletes anything. If you ever do reset the app, the current database is renamed rather than removed, so it stays in the app’s data folder, but nothing in the app can bring it back. Only an exported backup can, so export one before you need it.
