Service

The order of service

One list for the whole service, songs, passages, slides and videos, built ahead and walked on the day.

A service is the whole morning in one ordered list: the welcome slides, the worship set, the reading, the sermon deck, a video. It sits in the rail on the left of every mode, so the list is in front of you whether you are in Bible, Songs or Media.

Building it

Use Add at the foot of the rail:

  • Song opens the Library’s Songs. A song keeps the arrangement you pick for it.
  • Speaker adds whoever speaks next, picked from your speakers. Their passages go under them: Add passage in the speaker’s menu takes typed references, Ps 23; John 15:1-8. Semicolons and new lines separate them, and a chapter on its own takes the whole chapter. A speaker’s passages stay folded until you click the count beside the name.
  • Slides or media opens the Library, where Add to service on a deck, a video or an image puts it in the order.
  • Block is a part of the service with a title and a subtitle: Welcome, Worship, Message with the speaker’s name under it. It never goes on screen, and Next walks past it.

Songs, verses and decks can also be added from where you find them: Add to service on a song, on selected verses, or on a deck. Or drag them in: a song, deck, video or image straight from the Library, and verses from the Bible with Option (Alt on Windows) held, which carries the whole selection. They land where the blue line shows. Verses that land outside a speaker go under the speaker picked in Bible. Drag rows to reorder: a speaker moves with their passages.

The service picker at the top of the rail opens today’s service or a coming one, or makes a new one. New service asks for the day, the hour and, once the church has templates, the template it starts from. All services opens the Services page: the templates first, then every service newest first, whose list view has a Date column to sort by. Services and templates are kept there, not in the Library’s folders. Open a service there for its page: its order, which you can change there whether or not it is the one open, Edit service, and everything it showed. Duplicate for next week copies the order seven days on, so a Sunday that looks like last Sunday takes a minute.

Templates

A template is a service without a day: its name, its hour, the note and the order, speakers included. Save as template in the service picker or on a service’s page keeps one from the service you have. Templates are listed first under Services, and a template’s page edits its order like a service’s. New service from this on a template, or picking it in New service, makes a service for the day you choose that starts with everything in it. Changing the template later leaves the services made from it as they are.

On the day

Click a row and the app jumps to it: the song opens in Songs, the passage in Bible, the deck in Media. Nothing reaches the screen until you choose. Double-click a row to take it live.

Click a speaker and Bible reads for them: the verses you show are kept as theirs. Taking one of their passages live picks them too.

Verses you show in Bible join the order of today’s service, under the speaker picked in Bible, or Unknown speaker when nobody is. They go under that speaker’s row when it is next, else under their row already begun, else under a new row where the service is now; a sermon planned for later stays as it is. Verses read on one after another make one passage, and a verse a passage already holds adds nothing.

The row outlined and tagged Next is the first one still to come, a block or a speaker included. A row is done once it went on screen; a block once something after it did, and a speaker once one of their passages was read. When that is wrong, Mark as done in a row’s menu moves it up, and Not done yet on a done row puts it back in the plan. The web and a phone with control have both too.

The row that is live is marked.

A passage keeps the translation it was added with. One added from the web library follows the translation you are showing.

What is kept

There is nothing to start or end. The rail has one service open, and it stays open after a restart. What you show goes into the service for that day: if the open one is for another day, or none is open, today’s opens, and one is made if there is none. A service planned for next week never collects what was shown today.

Every song, passage, alert, deck, picture and video that goes on screen is kept with the service, with who showed it and on which computer, and the service’s page lists them. Two computers can have the same service open, and both are kept, each under its own name. A service a computer has open today cannot be deleted from another one.

Room for the Bible

The rail folds to a thin strip of icons with the button at its foot. Each mode remembers whether it was folded, so Bible can keep its books, chapters and verses wide while Songs shows the list.

Everywhere else

A service is part of the cloud library, so it can be planned in the browser at app.biblelook.com, under Services on the Library’s home page, and arrives on the booth computer. Videos and images live only on the computer they were imported on: the web shows their name and leaves them to the booth. A service’s page there lists what every computer showed, as it goes up. Edit there has two tabs, Plan and Details. What the service already showed stays at the top of the plan in the order it happened and can’t be moved or removed. Anything shown that wasn’t planned is marked Not planned.

From a phone

On a phone connected to the booth computer, Service is the service it has open, and someone with control can reorder it there. The round + at the bottom adds to it: tick songs, passages, slides, a speaker or a block, choose Next or At the end, and press Add. Add to service on a song’s page does the same for that song, and Add after this on a row puts what you pick right after it.

Someone who is only watching, a helper included, can add songs too. They wait in the order with a dashed outline and the name of whoever added them, until someone confirms or removes them: at the computer, in the rail or the box at the bottom right, or on a phone with control. Next lines stay right after whatever is on screen. Lines nobody answered stay in the service after it ends, and Edit on its page can still confirm or remove them.
