Look
Theme editor
Arrange and style a theme: its sections, its elements, the states they appear in and how they arrive.
Open the theme in the Library and choose Edit theme, or right-click a screen in the sidebar and choose Edit theme. Nothing you change reaches a screen until you press Save, and Cancel asks before it throws edits away.
The three columns
- Left: the theme’s name and size, then its sections, front to back, with each section’s elements under it.
- Middle: the canvas, a live preview of the theme with sample words, and the State strip under it.
- Right: whatever is selected, and any warnings. An element’s properties are on three tabs: Text for what it says and its font, Look for its colour, outline and shadow, and Motion for where it sits and how it arrives. A panel or a picture has only Look and Motion. The tab you pick stays open as you click from one element to the next.
Drag the dividers between them to give a column more room.
Sections and elements
Click a row to select it. With a row focused, the arrow keys walk the list, ← and → fold and open a section, ⌥↑ and ⌥↓ move the row up or down, and F2 renames an element. Dragging a row shows a line where it will land.
A section’s + button adds an element, and every row’s right-click menu can duplicate, rename, move or remove it. Higher in the list is in front on the wall.
States
The State strip picks what the canvas shows and which sections you can edit: Clear, Bible, Songs and Media, then Any mode and Always for sections that appear in more than one. Sections from other states are drawn but locked.
Alert and Speaker are overlays on top of the program rather than states of it: turn one on to edit it, off to return to where you were. Two languages previews a section’s second arrangement, for when a parallel translation is live.
Shown and Not shown
On the Motion tab, every element has two halves:
- Shown is where it sits while it is on screen.
- Not shown is where it waits, and so where its entrance starts. Opacity 0 fades it in, a different Y slides it, a W of 0 wipes it open.
Each half has its own timing. Entrance on Shown is how it arrives, Exit on Not shown is how it leaves, and a Delay makes one element land after another. Copy from Shown fills Not shown with where the element already is, so only what you change moves.
On the canvas
Drag an element to move it and its handles to resize it. Hold Shift to keep its shape, Alt to resize from the centre, and ⌘ (Ctrl on Windows) to place it freely without snapping. An element may hang past the edge of the canvas.
Right-click an element to duplicate it, bring it forward or send it back, or Arrange it against an edge or the middle of the canvas.
Zoom with ⌘+, ⌘− and ⌘0, or ⌘ and the scroll wheel. Hold Space and drag to pan.
Undo and shortcuts
⌘Z undoes and ⇧⌘Z redoes. A drag, or a run of changes to one field, undoes in a single step. The keyboard button over the canvas lists every shortcut:
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Delete | Remove the selection |
| ⌘D | Duplicate it |
| ⌘C, ⌘V | Copy and paste elements, between themes too |
| ⌘[, ⌘] | Send backward, bring forward |
| Arrows | Nudge, ten times as far with Shift |
| Enter | Jump to the first property |
| Escape | Let go of the selection |
| ⌘S | Save |
Warnings
A section with something wrong gets a ! in the list, and the right column says what: a section with no elements, an element its source never fills, a token the section never writes, an element placed entirely off the canvas, or text already at its smallest size, where longer words are cropped. Select a section to see only its own.
A text can show a timer: Insert token in what it Shows lists this computer’s timers. A theme made on another computer names timers this one has not been told about, and Variables not configured says so. Those lines stay empty on the wall until Configure picks one of this computer’s timers for each, see timers on another computer.
