A new computer
Each computer's setup is kept in the church library, so a new or reinstalled one can take it over.
When your church has BibleLook Plus, every computer keeps its setup in the church’s cloud Library as a settings backup named after the computer. It updates itself a little while after anything changes. When a computer is replaced or reinstalled, restore that backup on the new one instead of setting everything up again.
What a backup holds
- Preferences: the Bible options, the follow-along page and its captions, the sermon language, which panels are shown, launch at login and the keyboard shortcuts
- Profiles, each with its language and its light or dark look, without their passwords
- Screens, with the theme each one shows and the display it is on
- Timers and alerts: the timers, which timer each deck and theme reads, and the saved alerts
- Bible translations: which ones are installed, downloaded again on the new computer
- Downloaded videos: which videos are kept on the computer
- Follow-along and band links, taken over from the old computer
Passwords, the licence, window positions and the microphone are never in it.
A new backup appears at the top of Files. Rename it or move it into a folder like any other item: it keeps updating wherever it is.
Restoring on a new computer
- Connect the new computer on its first screen, as in Connect to your church. The backups are in the cloud library, which comes with Plus.
- On the welcome screen choose Restore from your church library, then Choose a backup.
- Pick the backup, usually the computer this one replaces.
- Untick any part you want to leave as it is, then choose Restore.
- Restart BibleLook.
On a computer that is already set up, an admin can restore from Settings → Backup → Restore settings, or open the backup in the Library and choose Restore on this computer.
Each ticked part replaces this computer’s own. Bible translations and downloaded videos are only added: nothing already here is removed.
After the restart
- BibleLook asks an admin to set the passwords again, profile by profile.
- A screen whose display was not found waits for one to be picked on the Screens page. The dialog says which ones before you restore.
- Web screens open at new links, so send the new link to whoever watches one.
- Missing Bible translations download in the background.
Printed follow-along codes
A QR code for the follow-along page or the band’s link belongs to the computer that made it. To keep the printed codes working, revoke the old computer under Devices in your church account first, then restore with Follow-along and band links ticked. The codes then open the new computer’s page. A computer that has not checked in for 60 days counts as removed here without being revoked.
While the old computer is still connected, that part says so and stays unticked.
Deleting a backup
Deleting a computer’s own backup stops that computer backing up its settings. Restore it from the trash, or choose Back up again in Settings → Backup, and it starts again.
Copies
Duplicate makes a copy that no computer updates, a snapshot to keep before
a big change, for example. Export saves a backup as a .blsettings file,
which you can import on a computer with no cloud library and restore from its
page as above.
The whole-computer backup file (.biblelookdata) also carries the preferences
and the list of Bible translations. See Export and import.
