Reading and searching

Find a passage by browsing, or by searching for words in it.

Browse

Pick a book, then a chapter. The verses fill the middle of the window. Nothing reaches the projector until you show it, so you can read ahead of the preacher without the congregation seeing you look.

Double-click a verse, or select it and press Enter, and it goes up. You stay on the chapter: a double-click shows any other verse, and the left and right arrow keys step through it. If you have moved on to another page, the address in the live bar brings you back.

Know the reference already? Find a verse is faster than clicking through.

Keyboard

KeyWhat it does
Down / UpSelects the next or previous verse. With nothing selected in the open book, starts at the top of the open chapter.
Shift+Down / Shift+UpStretches the selection a verse further, as a Shift-click does.
EnterShows the selection.
Right / LeftSteps what is showing to the next or previous verse, while something is up.
Shift+Escape (Cmd+Escape on a Mac)Hides the verse from the screen. A bare Escape never does.
Ctrl+. (Cmd+. on a Mac)Selects the verse that is showing, and goes to it.
Ctrl+T (Cmd+T on a Mac)Shows the selected verse in the other installed translations, to switch to one.

Every one of these keys can be changed, in Keyboard shortcuts.

Words, or a reference, or a reference followed by words, all go in the same box: see Find a verse. Results come nearest-first to where you are reading, and a book or chapter in front of the phrase narrows the search to it.

History

Every passage you show on this computer is listed here, newest first. When the preacher circles back to a verse from ten minutes ago, it is in the list rather than in your memory. Clearing the list only empties it: each service keeps what it showed on its own page.

With speakers set up, history is kept per speaker, so two preachers in one service do not read each other’s trail.

Passages in the order of service

If you know the passages in advance, put them in the order of service before it starts: type the references under Add, right-click a verse and choose Add to service, or hold Option (Alt on Windows) and drag the selected verses onto the rail. During the service they are rows you step down rather than references you retype under pressure. Fold the rail when the books and chapters need the room.
